Sponsor a Scholar

Two of our Maasai girl scholars are still in need of a sponsor. As a sponsor you will get the chance to build a life-long connection. We encourage personal letter exchanges between sponsors and scholars; and if a trip to Tanzania is in your future plans we'd be happy to schedule an in-person meeting for you and your scholar. You can sponsor a girl for a semester, a year or through her secondary education. The sponsorship costs are as follows:

Meet Martha

Meet Martha! Martha is a very confident and smart girl who is a natural leader within our Girls Scholarship Program. Her favorite subject is science. She is currently in Form 5/11th Grade. Martha was the first girl to join the Girls Scholarship Program in 2017 when she was 13 years old. Martha was raised traditionally in the Maasai bush of southwest Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

When Martha was 13 years old her father decided she would end school that year as Standard 7/7th Grade due to the high cost of school fees. He immediately accepted Martha’s bride price. After hearing of Martha’s situation, Lalafofofo’s Country Director, Gaudy Mtunga, met with the family and offered an educational scholarship for Martha in place of the impending marriage. By supporting Martha and the GSP, you are helping to eradicate child marriage in Tanzania and instill the value and importance of girls’ education, economic freedom, and self-determination.

Meet Upendo

Upendo is an adorable and intelligent young girl who loves to play card games and study science. She is currently in Standard 6/6th Grade. Upendo joined the Girls Scholarship Program in 2018 when she was 8 years old. Upendo was raised traditionally in the Maasai bush of southwest Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. She lived with her maternal grandmother since her parents were unable to care for her. Despite only being 7 years old, Upendo helped care for her three younger siblings. Everyone in the household suffered from severe malnutrition.

When Upendo was 8 years old her family decided to stop her education due to the financial burden and accepted her bride price to help feed the family. Upendo works very hard in school and gets straight As in all of her classes. Consider helping Upendo graduate from primary school and continue into her secondary education by contributing below.
