Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—an urgent call to action recognizing that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health, expand education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.
At Lalafofofo-Amka Sasa, our community-led initiatives in rural Kilimanjaro directly support this global partnership, advancing twelve core Sustainable Development Goals on the ground in Tanzania.

HOW WE SUPPORT THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Providing access to clean energy, school nutrition, and hygiene infrastructure in rural Maasai communities living in extreme poverty ($3/day), while expanding long-term earning potential through girls' secondary education.
Operating our Free School Meals Program across partner primary schools—providing daily uji (traditional porridge) for breakfast and nutritious lunches, with fresh vegetables.
SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being
Delivering Reproductive Health Education, scabies prevention, and improving community sanitation and water access.
Funding secondary school scholarships, leadership training, and mentorship through our Girls Scholarship Program, while driving primary school attendance via meal programs.
Empowering Maasai girls and women to delay early marriage and access equal education opportunities in partnership with Girls Not Brides.
SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation (WASH)
Constructing multi-phase public bathroom systems in Tindigani and delivering hygiene education to prevent water-borne and fecal-borne illnesses.
SDG 7: Affordable Clean Energy
Installing home solar kits (umeme) in traditional Maasai bomas to eliminate unsafe lighting and extend household hours for tasks such as cooking and homework.
SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Employing local Tanzanian staff, such as cooks, engineers, and data coordinators, and preparing scholarship recipients for future career opportunities.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Implementing sustainable off-grid infrastructure, including rural solar technology and public sanitation systems designed for remote environments.
Partnering directly with rural Maasai communities—who experience systemic marginalization and lack of basic services in Tanzania—to ensure equitable access to resources.
SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions
Advocating for the protection and basic human rights of young women and children by ending child marriage and building strong community partnerships.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Fostering collaborative impact through our Lalafofofo-Amka Sasa partnership, connecting the U.S. and Tanzania, and aligning with international organizations like Girls Not Brides.
