High School Scholars Program
VISION: Involve East African youth in social justice and
community service projects.
MISSION: Build solidarity and cultural competency among
American and Tanzanian scholars.
THEORY OF CHANGE: Compassionate and effective social justice activism
requires cultural introspection.
Program Overview & Objectives
Educate American students (ages 16-22) on:
Issues related to Lalafofofo’s work on global access to education, female empowerment and ending child marriage, poverty and food insecurity, and humanitarianism;
Tanzanian and Maasai culture.
Provide monthly opportunities for young American students to learn, process and discuss issues related to gender, race and ethnicity within the context of humanitarianism in the United States, Tanzania and Africa.
Inspire involvement of American students in Tanzanian community service programs.
Create a mentoring partnership between high school students and college students/working professionals through their shared passion and community service within the context of Tanzania.
As ambassadors of Lalafofofo, the high school scholars will support the organization’s mission through the HSSP committees and potential community service trip to Tanzania at the end of their term.
